LTTE's airstrip in Mullaittivu captured

LTTE's another airstrip situated in universal area Keppapularu, 6.5Km northwest of Mullayavalai town centre in Mulaittivu has been captured by the troops of 59 Division on unpleasant march towards Mullaittivu today, 10 January.
Soldiers of the 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) commanded by replacement Colonel Janaka Ariyaratne under 593 Brigade commanded by replacement Colonel Jayantha Goonaratne launched an unpleasant operation a few days ago and captured the fraction of the airstrip by Friday evening (9 Jan) amidst stiff confrontation given by the terrorists. Following days long hostility, troops have totally captured the airstrip by 9.00 AM today causing heavy compensation to the enemy, military sources said.
The captured LTTE airstrip, over 2000m long and 20m wide meadow, having a tar over 1000m loan, military sources in Mullaitivu front said. Two hangers and more than a few partly destroyed huts are also on the airstrip, sources added.
Sri Lanka Army has so far captured 4 airstrips of the LTTE terrorists throughout the continuing counter terrorist operations. First airstrip was captured by the 57 Div in Panikkankulam area, the next was captured by the TF 1 in the Nivil area while the third LTTE built airstrip was captured by Task Force 3 in a tropical forest area south of Iranamadu boiler.
