Forward power troops of the 57 Division now operating East of Iranamadu Tank bund have situated the 6th LTTE 'air strip', this morning (Jan 16).
According to earth troops the air strip, 300m long and 15-20m wide is situated Southeast of the Iranamadu tank bund, which is also said to be an additional room of the existing road that runs similar to the tank bund.
"What we observe here is more less than a conventional air strip but sufficient for a shorter lift off", a armed official said. According to obtainable information, LTTE has used this mainly for preparation proposes of its 'rudimentary air wing' and hardcore fighters. Possibilities also exist that terrorists might have second-hand this as an option hallway pad, the sources further said.
Troops are further engaged in clearing operations in the area, the sources said.
