LTTE release two UN expatriates; 13 local staff still detained in Wanni

Two UN expatriates by force under arrest by the LTTE terrorists in Wanni have been free and allowed to return the government forbidden areas today (Jan 29), military sources said. The terrorists forcibly detained the two expatriates and 13 other local UN workers in Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaittivu since Friday (Jan 16). The 13 local workers are still under LTTE imprisonment, the sources said
The UN workers had traveled into the LTTE beating areas with a food group for the people under LTTE clutched. Following the release of the necessary items, the terrorists had not allowed the go back trip of the UN workers and kept them in the human protect maintained by the terrorists. The UN office requested the immediate release its workers by communiqu‚ issued on Thursday (Jan 22) after frequent attempts to safe their release unsuccessful.
Military sources further said that Mr. Hanroon , one of the under arrest UN expatriates have met with Wanni Security Forces Commander , Major Genral Jagath Jayasooriya after his let go from terrorist detention. He has explained his ordeal and expressed his concerns about continued custody of the local UN staff in the LTTE beating areas.
