'A blow to global terror' - The Island Editorial

"The imprison of Kilinochchi is not a blow to the LTTE alone. It has sent a physically powerful message to others of its ilk all over the world that the civilised world is able of eliminating the bane of terrorism", The Island affirmed in a timely leader published Saturday(Jan 03), on the drop of LTTE's HQ - Kilinochchi.
"The fall of Kilinochchi has sent the LTTE's spin doctors camouflaged as press and defence experts organization in look for of fig leaves to wrap their nudity. One of them lately concocted a cock-and-bull hypothesis that the LTTE had so far second-hand only new workers to battle the advancing army and the best cadres would be deployed later. Can no matter which be more ridiculous than this?", the editorial additional asserted.
Following is the full text of the Island Editorial, on 3rd Jan 2009.
Last November Prabhakaran bragged in an meeting with an Indian periodical that capturing Kilinochchi would be a reverie for President Mahinda Rajapaksa. But, yesterday(Jan 02), the President's reverie came true! Prabhakaran had to dump that rural community which he used to arrogantly call 'the capital of Eelam' and run for beloved life.
The fall of Kilinochchi has sent the LTTE's spin hospital masquerading and defence experts running in look for of fig leaves to cover their nudity. One of them as press lately concocted a cock-and-bull theory that the LTTE had so far second-hand only new workers to battle the advancing army and the best cadres would be deployed later. Can no matter which be more ridiculous than this? Are we to meet that Prabhakaran was so na‹ve as to vow to protect Kilinochchi against the army on more than a few fronts with the help of a bunch of greenhorns alone? Why weren't those 'brave Tigers' used to fight tooth and nail to protect their 'capital' at least after their boss had undertaken to stop its fall at any cost.
The LTTE's choice to give up Kilinochchi and suffer the worst ever beat is equal to a tacit admittance that it cannot go on hostility. This, all Tiger backers must come to conditions with.
Nothing could have dealt a worse blow to the LTTE's confidence than the loss of Kilinochchi. It has no way of defensive Mullaittivu which the army is balanced to take anytime. The LTTE is probable to fall down before long under intolerable military force brought to stand on it on more than a few fronts. When that happens, the irate civilians Prabhakaran is keeping in his decrease 'empire' at gunpoint will effort to break free thus making him face a twice whammy.
Whatever the easy chair military experts, 'fifth columnists' and following pundits may say, the LTTE has dug its own serious and is about to lie in it. Prabhakaran is paying the price for his hubris, savagery and military miscalculations. Today, the man who disdainfully spurned President Chandrika Kumaratunga's offer of the entire North without elections for ten years in the early 1990s and the Oslo Declaration which envisaged federalism has had to hide in an area which the army says is smaller than the Thoppigala jungles. He should have known better than to thrust the state back into war by capturing the Mavil Aru sluice gates in 2006!
The army and its untiring Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka merit plaudits for having fought so bravely and captured the so-called heartland of the LTTE. President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa have efficiently silenced their critics who required to pooh-pooh the country's war on terror. However, the government must not lose sight of the need to take steps to prevent through following means the factors that gave rise to terrorism.
The LTTE yesterday caused one of its brainwashed cadres to blow himself up near the Air Force managerial Camp most probably in a bid to upstage the imprison of Kilinochchi. No quantity of blasts is going to help the LTTE avert tragedy. This country has learnt to live with terrorism and is recognized for its extraordinary pliability. The only way Prabhakaran can stop his cadres and himself from perishing is to give in.
The imprison of Kilinochchi is not a gust to the LTTE alone. It has sent a physically powerful message to others of its ilk all over the world that the civilised world is capable of eliminating the bane of terrorism.
