3 Police constables killed, one injured in bomb explosion - Batticaloa

3 Police constables were killed and another injured when a bomb exploded within 400m distance of the Ayithamalai Police post in Batticaloa this evening (June 23), Police sources report.

3 constables who had gone to bathe in the lake nearby were killed in the explosion said Police Spokesperson DIG Ranjith Gunasekara, adding that it is believed to be a time bomb set by infiltrated LTTE operatives in the area.

The injured identified as PC Amila was rushed to the general Hospital at Batticaloa, he said.

The Police and security forces personnel are conducting further search operations in the area, according to our Batticaloa correspondent.
