46 Terrorists killed, 26 wounded in yesterday's clashes in Wanni and Jaffna

Finalized military reports received yesterday (June 4) from warfronts in the Island's northern province indicate stepped up attacks by Sri Lanka Army at the LTTE positions.

In the Jaffna theatre of battle, troops confronted in the Muhamalai and Kilaly areas in four separate incidents and claimed one LTTE cadre was killed and 2 others wounded. In addition, one soldier was killed and 2 others suffered injuries during these clashes.

In the Wanni theatre of battle, troops continued to engage terror positions on the Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya front throughout the day.

On the Vavuniya front, troops confronted with the terrorist at 6 separate incidents and reported to have killed 38 terrorists and wounded 20 others.

In the general area Periyamadhu, troops attacked a tractor transporting terrorists using rocker propeller grenades last evening. Ground troops confirmed 5 terrorists were killed in the incident. Again in the same general area , troops had two separate confrontations during the evening hours and claimed 11 terrorists were killed and 3 others wounded.

In the general area Vilattikulama , troops ambushed a group of terrorists last afternoon. Monitored radio transmissions among the LTTE units revealed that 5 terrorists were killed and 10 others wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, in confrontations occurred in the Navvi area from forenoon to evening, LTTE radio transmissions confirmed that 17 terrorists were killed and 7 others wounded.

While engage in clearing operations, 2 soldiers suffered injuries due to anti personnel (AP) mine explosions occurred in the Alakaddivallikulama area last evening. Meanwhile, troops clearing Muppankulama area removed 46 AP mines and 6 improvised bombs.

On the Mannar front, troops conducted counter terror offensives in the Nadunkandal area during the morning hours and claimed to have killed 4 LTTE cadres and wounded 2 others. One terror bunker was also reportedly destroyed. One soldier suffered injuries.

Meanwhile, in 14 civilians came from non liberated areas sought refuge from the security forces. The IDPs were directed to IDP centre at Pariyarakandal after having registered with the police. On information received from a civilian, a remote controlled claymore mine along with 3 detonators found in the Pesalai area.

On the Welioya front, troops had a series of clashes in the Kokkuthuduvai , North of Andankulam , North of Janakapura during the day . According to the reports 3 terrorist were killed , 2 others wounded and 8 others were either killed or wounded in these incidents . Troops suffered no casualties.

Also , troops found 3 improvised bombs , 9 AP mines, and 1 riffle (T-56).

Limited offensives are continuing.
