SL expatriates commemorate 'Ranaviru Day' at Auckland

The " Ranaviru Commemoration Ceremony" on 07 June 2008 was held in Auckland, New Zealand organised by The New Zealand Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka ( SPUR New Zealand).

The Chief Sangha Nayake of New Zealand Ven. Walgama Munindawansa Thero, Rev. Father Dharshana Jayamanne and Mr. M.C.A. Hassan addressed the large gathering. All three religious leaders appreciated the efforts made by the personnel in the security forces in Sri Lanka to maintain the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka. They paid respect to those who sacrificed their lives.

The highlight of the ceremony was lighting of lamps by those who attended at 7pm. This is a part of the worldwide ceremonies organised by the expatriate Sri Lankan community living around the world and New Zealand was the first country to celebrate the event."

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan expatriates residing in Melbourne and the Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka (SPUR), Australia also held poojas to bless and commemorate the war heroes.
