Wanni libertarian operation in progress; 37 terrorists killed, over 30 injured

Security forces personnel engaged in multi-pronged offensive operation to liberate Wanni from LTTE clutches killed 37 terrorists and injured 16 more in yesterday's, July 4, clashes, the finalized military report received from battlefront said. Another 17 terrorists were also reportedly either killed or wounded due to these clashes.

On Jaffna theatre of battle, 3 LTTE terrorists were gunned down by the army snipers deployed in general area Muhamalai during day hours yesterday.

On Wanni theatre, in Vavuniya front clashes between security forces and LTTE terrorists were reported in Navathkulam, Ampaddankulam, Nochchikulam, Palaimoddai, Navvi and KOVITKUNCHUKULAM aeras. 26 LTTE terrorists were killed while 5 others suffered injuries. An army soldier has laid his life for the sake of motherland and another 4 received injuries, the report said.

In Welioya front, during heavy gun battle reported in north of Janakapura and Kiriibbanwewa areas 8 terrorists were killed while another 11 suffered injuries. 18 more terrorists reportedly either killed or wounded during fierce gun battle erupted yesterday.

Meanwhile, the security forces personnel engaged in mine clearing operatio in recently liberated areas in north of Janakapura and Kiriibbawewa have unearthed 90 anti-personnel mines, 17 IEDs and 2 anti-tank mines, the report further said.

Separately, based on information received from a civilian, troops have found hand grenade and few other warlike items from genera area Pokurani last evening. 3 T-56 magazines, 90 T-56 ammunition, 2 detonators and a 6ft length detonator code were also among the items recovered.

On the same day, on tip-off from civilian troops engaged in a search operation in the general area of Manalachenai Periyaweri in Trincomalee recovered 1.5 kg TNT explosives, two detonators and two feet detonator code.
