Liberating "Rice Bowl" is a victory of forces and citizens - Minister Keheliya

The liberation of the "Rice Bowl" in Mannar is a significant victory of the humanitarian missions of the security forces and it paves way for the citizens of this country to enjoy the bliss of democracy that this government is committed to preserve, said Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella.

Speaking at the weekly media briefing, the Minister said that the land area of over 120 kilometers known as the "Rice Bowl" had been under the grip of terrorists for more than 2 decades and added that despite this the Government has never neglected the development of these areas, the state had always been present in one way or another.

He also noted that the terrorists have been using the Government's resources especially that which had been reserved for the development of the area.

"It is in this context that liberating this area from the clutches of terrorists is noteworthy," the Minister added.

He poointed to the massive development drives initiated by the Government in the recently liberated Eastern Province and added that eastern masses will not allow terrorism hold their lives to ransom again.
