Wanni liberation operation continuous; 17 terrorists killed, 18 wounded

Security forces personnel engaged in counter terrorists offensive operation killed 17 LTTE terrorists and injured 18 others in clashes reported in Jaffna and Wanni theatres of battle yesterday, June 30, the finalized military report said.

In Jaffna theatre, 2 LTTE cadres were killed while another 6 reportedly either killed or wounded in clashes reported in Nagarkovil and Muhamalai fronts. Army soldier also suffered injuries due to these clashes.

In Vavuniya front, clashes between security forces and LTTE terrorists were reported from Navatkulam, Periyamadhu, Palaimoddai and Kovitkunchukulam areas. 10 LTTE terrorists were killed while another 10 suffered injuries during these clashes. 3 army soldiers have laid their lives for the sake of motherland. 4 others who received injuries have been evacuated to the Vavuniya hospital.

Meanwhile, troops found a body of slain LTTE cadres killed in recreant battle took place in Navvi area. A T-56 weapon, a radio set and 4 hand grenades wear also found along with the body.

In Welioya front, confrontations occurred in general areas north of Kiriibbanwewa and north of Janakapura. 5 LTTE cadres were killed and 8 others injured, the report said. 3 more LTTE cadres reportedly either killed or wounded, the report said. 4 army soldiers who suffered injuries during these clashes were also rushed to the hospitals.

Troops engaged in mine clearing duties in recently liberated areas in north of Janakapura, unearthed 84 anti-personnel mines and 6 IEDs, the report added.
