Terrorists suffer heavy beatings; 14 terrorists killed, 40 wounded in yesterday's clashes

Security forces personnel operating in Mulaithiuvu and Kilinochchi areas moving further northwards despite the terror resistance and causing heavy damages to the enemy. 14 terrorists were killed, 25 wounded and 15 others reportedly either killed or wounded in yesterday's (16 August) clashes, the military report received from the battlefront said.

In Jaffna, one soldier received injuries due to a confrontation took place in general area Kilaly.

Troops operation in Vavuniya front killed an LTTE terrorist in a confrontation occurred in general area Vedamakilam. Meanwhile, troops of Task Force 2 operating in the same front killed 8 terrorists and injured 9 others in series of clashes ensued in Palaimoddai area. Troops have also captured LTTE bunkers and trenches in the area. 2 soldiers have made their utmost sacrifices for the sake of motherland while another 6 sustained injuries, the report added.

Separately, troops of 57 Division operating in Mulaithiuvu district advanced further towards LTTE territory despite the terror resistance. 5 terrorists were killed while 13 others suffered injuries due to series of clashes reported in Tunukkai and Mallavi areas. 6 soldiers have sacrificed their lives for defending the motherland while another 4 sustained injuries due to the enemy's resistance. Troops have unearthed 25 anti-personnel mines and 8 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) while conducting mine-clearing operations in recently captured areas in Tunukkai.

In Welioya front, 3 terrorists were killed while another 15 reportedly either killed or wounded due to the confrontations erupted in general area Andankulam, the report said. 2 soldiers also sustained injuries due to these clashes.
