Desert Cups Cricket Academy donates our war heroes
The Desert Cups Cricket school in Shajah United Arab Emirates (UAE) made a donation showing gratitude on war heroes made sacrifices for defensive the motherland on 10th August 2009.
Coach of the Cricket Academy, Mr Presley Polonnowita, team members and their parents have made their payment for the donation.
The donation including10 Air mattresses and 25 control were handed over to conflict heroes in the presence of the president of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa in a charm function held at the Defence Ministry's hall.

General G.D.G.N. Seneviratne VSV, former Commander of the Army passed not present this sunrise (12), the Army head office announced.
General Seneviratne who commanded Sri Lanka military from 12th February 1985 to 15th August 1988 was the 10th leader of the Army.

NCC Girls' Annual Assessment camp held at Rantembe
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Girls' Annual appraisal camp was held lately at NCC training Center at Rantembe.
The chief visitor of the Passing out procession was president of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa.
Director of NCC Maj. General Gamini Jayasundara RWP, RSP and many senior officers of NCC contributed at the time. Chairperson of NCC Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Priyanthi Jayasundera and parents of school cadets also attended at the event.
The cadet squad of the Ratnawalee Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Gampaha, won the first Place in the Girls' Annual assessment camp held 19th-26th July.

Street lights for Mannar and Vavuniya
Street lamps have been installed in Vavuniya and Mannar towns to light up infrastructure and thoroughfares that were plunged into darkness during the separatists war. After the basic armed training at the Army Training centre, he left for Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, UK for further preparation and was commissioned to the Sri Lanka Armoured corps, as a Second Lieutenant afterwards on 03rd August 1962.
A series of remembrance religious behavior to mark the seventeen death birthday of the military chief, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, the legendary War Hero of our times have been organized, giving fame to donation of dry food to less fortunate in Thanthirimale, conduct of alms givings and Bodhi Poojas, Dhamma sermons, etc.

Mr. John Dickson, a Committee Chairman with the World Trade Centers friendship, Inc., shared his thoughts on the topic, "Peace and Stability through Economic Growth and Development" Mr. Dickson praised Sri Lankan government for appointing an diplomat from the private sector, noting the practical and effectual natural world of the Ambassador's appearance. Mr. Dickson went on to give particulars the association flanked by business, peace and stability.
After an inspirational musical appearance and an introductory video to UPF, Mr. Jim Flynn, Secretary General of UPF-USA delivered a complete synopsis of the main beliefs of peace building and reconciliation which are the central pillars of UPF's work of establishing peace throughout the world.
At the close of the program, new Ambassadors for calm were appointed and welcomed to UPF's global network of peacemakers by the Washington area Secretary General, Ms. Gail Paine. Sri Lankan Ambassador to U.S, H.E. Jaliya Wickramasuriya, was chosen as an Ambassador for Peace, while two other Sri Lankans were among seven the newly appointed Ambassadors for Peace.
Ambassadors for Peace are a global network of leaders representing the spiritual, racial and ethnic diversity of the human family, as well as all disciplines of human try. They stand on the ordinary ground of communal principles, committed to the path of promoting reconciliation, overcoming barriers, and building peace.

More facilities for IDPs
The Government is taking extra steps to provide appropriate facilities to house the IDPs coming to Government held areas in rising numbers.
Senior Presidential consultant and MP Basil Rajapaksa disclosed this following a conversation with key Line Ministers, director of the North, Provincial Council Secretaries, Government Agents, Divisional Secretaries and the safety officials held at the Presidential Secretariat on January 17.
The Government has made preparations to set up Refugees Welfare Centres in Menik Farm 1 which has 150 acres, Menik Farm 2 having 450 acres and Omanthai 150 acres to give instant relief events to the IDP's coming from the Vavuniya, Mannar, Mulaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna districts.
The Ministry of relocation and Disaster Management has made preparations to speed up the relief events for IDP's and resettle 30,000 families within these three camps. The Ministry has already resettled 778 families, he added.
The people coming from un-cleared areas into the Government forbidden areas will be provided with not poisonous meals, dry rations, drinking water, health and sanitary facilities, electricity, cooking gear, clothes, infant food and other essential items. In addition, they will also be provided with daily payment of Rs.100 for any of their various needs, further he said
According to Senior President consultant Rajapaksa, the Government would get the help of the relevant Ministries, Provincial Council authorities, Divisional Secretaries and security officials to facilitate areas of leisure and other amenities for the displaced persons.
The Ministry of Resettlement is coordinating the provision of relief services to the displaced persons through the Government Agents in Vavuniya and a sum of Rs.30 million has alre adybeen allocated to make easy preparations.
" More people are predictable to enter Government forbidden areas in the near future.
The Government is rank by in training to provide all release measures to those pending from uncleared areas. The Government has also aimed to get better the living principles of the people in the war torn area than the obtainable standards," he said.
He said with the help of the Health Ministry, the UNICEF would give Hygienic Kit to each family and they have also undertaken to provide extra food such as UNIMIX and BP a 100 high power biscuits to all children to conquer any form of undernourishment throughout this time.
The WFP and World Health Organisation will be actively involved in expediting this process.
He also directed the Zonal Education Director and the Education Ministry officials in Vavuniya to allow all the students who have sat the December Ordinary level Examination to be given the opportunity to sit the upcoming mathematics paper which is scheduled to be retaken on January 24, 2009.
Rajapaksa also stated that" It is a phenomenal fact during the recent liberation of the North there was no damage to ant property and harm to civilians. In this instance, it is indeed significant where the security forces had acted with utmost respect and diligence to protect the rights of the people of the North.
This has brought much praise among other countries and high end officials hence this would be a model the Geneva Convention would be looking to promote among other countries."
He said the Government believes that the major portion of credit for liberation of northern areas should accrue to the heroic forces that have relentlessly and a great risk and cost taken on the world's most ruthless LTTE terrorist organisation and triumphed Government.
The Government is looking forward to establish the civil administration in the Northern area. All the Government servants are engaged to protect all the territories liberated by the forces and security must be strengthen in those respective areas, he added.

Five heavy claymore mines uncovered - Vavuniya
Locally made serious claymore mines were exposed from Vavuniya area in a joint Army and Police seem for process conducted yesterday, 24 December.
The search procedure was conduced in general area Paleyasakulam in Vavuniya and 5 nearby complete claymore mines were naked during the search process.
A 18Kg claymore mine, two 12Kg claymore mines and two more 12.15 Kg claymore mines are in the center of the recoveries.

At least 10 LTTE killed in Wanni clashes
Troops continued advances in the Wanni battle theater as troops claimed at least 10 LTTE killed and an enemy bunker line destroyed during confrontation erupted between troop and LTTE on Tuesday (April 29).
In the Mannar front, in general area Kalliankadu troops launched intensive small arms and RCL fire destroying an LTTE bunker defence at 10.40a.m., security sources said. According to ground troops 3-4 LTTE terrorists were believed either killed or injured during the attack.
Earlier, an LTTE terrorist was reported killed in a SLA sniper attack in general area Parappakandal, at around 6.45a.m. Also during a search operation conducted in general area Veppankulama troops have recovered 18 AP mines, security sources further said.
In the Vavuniya front, 2 soldiers received injuries due to an AP mine explosion in general area Kallikulama, while another soldier was reported wounded during a confrontation with LTTE North of Chinnavalayankaddu.
Meanwhile, 6 LTTE were reported killed when troops clashed with terrorists in general area North West of Thatchchanamaruthamadu.

Madhu Liberation - Daily News Editorial
The liberation of the Madhu Church precincts from the terrorists marks a watershed in the Northern war theatre. The troops trod with utmost caution in the sacred area, honouring a No Fire Zone arrangement, which the LTTE unfortunately violated. The soldiers ensured that no harm was caused to the Sacred Shrine, renowned throughout Asia.
The Army faced a formidable task vis-a-vis Madhu. The LTTE had heavily mined the area. The slightest propaganda by the troops and any damage to the Church would have sent the LTTE misinformation network into hyperdrive. It is to their credit that they managed this feat without literally falling into the traps laid by the LTTE, physically and metaphorically.
One unsolved mystery is why the Madhu Church authorities conveyed the Scared Statue of Our Lady of Madhu to another location in an LTTE-dominated area, in spite of repeated pleas by the clergy and laity to convey the statue to a Government-controlled area, so that Christians from both Sinhala and Tamil communities could pay homage to it.
We hope the priests will now return the Statue to its rightful abode, where it will be protected and venerated by all. The Government and the Army will spare no effort to preserve the sanctity of the church zone, which has seen conflict for a number of years.
It is not only the Madhu Church that has seen the ravages of conflict. The Sri Dalada Maligawa was attacked by LTTE terrorists 10 years ago.
The LTTE gunned down pilgrims in Anuradhapura in 1985. Many Buddhist places of worship in the North and East have been partially or completely destroyed. Kovils and mosques have also been affected.
It is an unwritten rule of war that places of worship are not attacked. But the LTTE has violated this rule many times. In the case of Madhu, newspapers reported how LTTE cadres virtually set up base in and around the Church. They disregarded the No Fire Zone.
Now that the Forces, and hence the Government, have regained the Madhu Church area, Christians can heave a collective sigh of relief. With the impending liberation of the entire North, pilgrims of all over Sri Lanka will soon be able to venerate this famous shrine in a free and peaceful atmosphere.
