The Secretariat for Co-ordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) in Sri Lanka has issued its Quarterly Newsletter (April-June 2008) in a media briefing held at the BMICH on last Monday, July 07. The book "Pursuing Peace, Fighting Falsehood" which is a collection of press releases and other articles by Prof Rajiva Wijesinha, Secretary General of the SCOPP, was also launched for the public in this media briefing.
By addressing the media briefing the Secretary General stated that a team of the SCOPP visited the Batticaloa, Ampara and Trincomalee districts and held discussions with the religious and community leaders, academics, politicians elected for local bodies in the recently held election, security forces officials and civil representatives of these districts.
With the issues raised by various levels of the eastern community, the SCOPP Chief also asserted that the Peace Secretariat would take further measures to strengthen the government's efforts to stabilize and uplift living standards of the people in the East.
