Furniture was distributed among 50 low - income families for their new houses with financial aid from People's Bank and Independent Television Network according to a plan for the fulfillment of the humanitarian requirements Pothpathi Grama Niladhari Division in the 55 Brigade area on the instructions of Jaffna Commander Major General G.A.Chandrasiri.
The families who had received the new houses were displaced by tsunami. Deputy Commander 55 Brigade and senior Civil Coordination officer, Jaffna, including Army - civil coordination officers participated in the event representing the Jaffna Commander. Mr. M.Sri Skanda Kumar, Divisional secretary Marudantheni, Mr. M.Sivaganeshan, Manager People's Bank, Point Pedro and Mr. Sanukanandan, G.N.Pothpathi also participated.
The items cost nearly Rs. 2 1/2 million. Earlier the beneficiaries were given certificates by the distinguished guests. At the Trade Fair held at Duraippa green each family received 06 chairs, 01 dining table, 01 almirah, 01 bed, 01 mattress, 04 plastic chairs, Over 200 civilians predicated in the ceremony. The Army served soft drinks to the participants who expressed their gratitude to the Army.
