Patients held captive by LTTE taken to Vavuniya hospital by ICRC

The Hindu , a leading Indian newspaper depicted the plight of the Tamil civilians in Wanni in a cartoon published on Wednesday (Jan 28).
A total of 226 patients in the corporation of their 139 relations and bystanders have brought to the Vavuniya administration hospital from Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaittivu by UN and ICRC officials this evening (Jan 29), military sources reveal. There are at least 40 children in the collection of civilians, the sources add.
Sri Lankan government sent 12 ambulances and 5 buses on Tuesday (Jan 27) with medical officers and nursing staff of Vavuniya hospital to Puthukkudiyiruppu defence line to make easy move of some 300 patients in the Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital. However, the LTTE terrorists refused the transfer of patients with the intention of retaining them further in the person shield. The ICRC and UN officials who had brought the patients to the LTTE blockade at Puthukkudiyiruppu in 16 ambulances, 7 trucks and one other means of transportation were sent rear by the terrorists in malice of the recurrent requested made by both UN and ICRC to the LTTE to go on to the government not allowed areas.
However, the UN officials and ICRC officials have been bright to move the patients today. The relations of the patients have told military officials that the LTTE had to get this choice with the rising public hatred over the brutality of the group. The two UN expatriates who had been under take into care by the LTTE in Wanni since 16 January were too able to come to the government forbidden areas with the compilation of patients.
Meanwhile, defence.lk special reporter in Vavuniya said that the number of civilians arrived today are greater than the numbers indicated as the patients and their by standers. As the registration of the IDPs is still going on and the exact number is yet to be announced, he said.
Also, the civilians have told our reporter how the LTTE has gutless located their heavy guns in the densely occupied areas to take cover from the blameless civilians. According to them , the civilians are in a huge danger as the mindless terrorists often run amok time to time with rising disputes between the civilians and them . According to the defence sources there are about 150, 000 civilians are being under arrest in the residual LTTE hiding areas .

LTTE release two UN expatriates; 13 local staff still detained in Wanni

Two UN expatriates by force under arrest by the LTTE terrorists in Wanni have been free and allowed to return the government forbidden areas today (Jan 29), military sources said. The terrorists forcibly detained the two expatriates and 13 other local UN workers in Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaittivu since Friday (Jan 16). The 13 local workers are still under LTTE imprisonment, the sources said
The UN workers had traveled into the LTTE beating areas with a food group for the people under LTTE clutched. Following the release of the necessary items, the terrorists had not allowed the go back trip of the UN workers and kept them in the human protect maintained by the terrorists. The UN office requested the immediate release its workers by communiqu‚ issued on Thursday (Jan 22) after frequent attempts to safe their release unsuccessful.
Military sources further said that Mr. Hanroon , one of the under arrest UN expatriates have met with Wanni Security Forces Commander , Major Genral Jagath Jayasooriya after his let go from terrorist detention. He has explained his ordeal and expressed his concerns about continued custody of the local UN staff in the LTTE beating areas.

LTTE underwater vehicles found - Mullaittivu

Sri Lanka Army Task Force 3 found an LTTE undersea vehicle along with 3 other smaller underwater vehicles which are still under building from the Udayarkattukulam area in Mullaittivu yesterday morning (Jan 28). Military sources said that this was the most surprising recovery made by troops so far during the on going oppose terrorist operations next to the LTTE. Three suicide boats and a large haul of LTTE maritime gear were also found at the site , the sources added.
The sources additional revealed , the main underwater vehicle found is about 35 feet in distance end to end and amour plated. in the middle of the other matter found , there were one low bed clip, one armour plate used for bending equipment, fifteen oxy-acetylene welding cylinders, thirty armour plate sheets of 20 ft each, three pedal-type suicide boats, one Dvora-type fast attack skill, a large number of water pumps, two lorries, two buses, one truck, one heavy duty generator, one water bowzer trailer, one bowzer, filled with kerosene, two big lathe equipment, two influential compressors, one welding plant, a number of electric motors, one large lifting jack, many boats and vehicle engines, three hangar-shaped buildings of 75 ft x 15 ft each, fifteen small tiled-houses of 20 ft x 30 ft with full air training and five tiled-billets of 25 ft x 100 ft with full air training.
The discovery was made by the infantrymen of 4 Sri Lanka glow Infantry (4 SLLI) commanded by Major Najeewa Edirisinghe.

With this discovery the LTTE will go down in the the past as the first terrorist association to expand underwater weapons. Also, the LTTE is the first terrorist outfit to introduce suicide bombers to the world and to develop naval and air arms.
Defence observers are in the view that the LTTE has been able to come this far in terrorism fighting because of the leeway given the group by the international community. Until lately, the LTTE sympathizers were given chance to raise money freely in the western countries to buy arms and bullets. The group has been able to function a fleet of ships to smuggle arms, connect in drug trafficking and human smuggling to make money, etc, in many parts of the world. LTTE flee in total disarray, troops capture 152mm artillery gun - Visuamadu

10 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops beneath the command of Major Janaka Uduowita in hot chase of LTTE in Mullaittivu have captured a 152mm artillery gun along with 70 empty bullets cases in general area Northeast of Visuamadu, this morning (Jan 29).
According to earth sources, LTTE terrorists receiving heavy thrashing from security forces have fled in total confusion also send-off the weaponry gun which was dismantled and ready for transportation. The gun is in good operational condition, a military official said verbal communication to defence.lk
10GR is one of the infantry battalions operating under the 58 Division, Northeast of Visuamadu at the Mullaittivu battlefront. The 152mm artillery gun is an area neutralization weapon used in the battlefields with effectual firing ranges between 17km - 24 km.
Further search operations are ongoing in the area.

LTTE suicide jacket found - Dehiwala

Residents of the Wasala road, Dehiwala have found an volatile filled cover worn by LTTE suicide cadres this morning (Jan 29).
According to the police sources, the inhabitants while clearing shrubbery lands in their neighborhood have made this discovery. Police said that the suicide jacket contained 4 Kg of C-4 high explosives.
The inhabitants have launched a "Shrama Dana" movement to clear their area on the instruction of the police that they have to be vigilant about likely terrorist activities in the area. Police added that the inhabitants have saved number lives with this detection.

Associated Press kills story about civilians deaths after realizing they were subjected to a hoax

The Associated Press in a notice sent to all its customer publications requested to kill the Sri Lanka war tale that said 300 civilians have been killed and 1000 other civilians have been upset after realizing that they have been subjected to a trick.
In the notice the linked Press said, "Kill the Sri Lanka-Civil War story, V5414. The source denies he wrote the letter that said more than 300 civilians had been killed and 1,000 wounded in hostility in northern Sri Lanka."
Most of the Western news agencies have been subjected to the hoax of a letter supposed to have been written by a Medical managerial doctor in the form of an urgent appeal letter emailed to news agencies embassies and aid agencies etc.
Dr. Varatharaja, the local Director of Health Services (RDGS) Mullaitivu, who is supposed to be the originator of this "appeal" has deprived of any friendship with it, and states its contents are false and exaggerated; that it has not originated from him or his office, and that he does not have the same opinion with its contents, and that this "appeal" dispersed in order to humiliate him.
An official Sri Lanka government declaration said, "This is issued as an "URGENT APPEAL to the Government of Sri Lanka, the ICRC, the UN and the international group of people for medical supplies and checkup teams to be sent to the Mullaitivu district." This false appeal refers to an "acute shortage of essential drugs and medical workers in hospitals in the Mullaitivu District", aims at showing a major caring disaster in the area.
This false "appeal" refers to "heavy hostility and continuous multi-barrel arms shelling has resulted in more than that 300 internally displaced persons life form killed and over 1000 'hundred' injured in Suthanthirapuram, Udaiyaarkaddu and Vallipuram in the Mullaitivu District".
A Sri Lanka government Health Ministry official said, "I must talk about here that the first district drugs to these districts have been dispatched by the Ministry on priority even before the other districts were full.
Furthermore, I wish to state with utmost blame that I have been contacted by Dr. Vartharaja twice today, 27/1/2009 and he has firmly denied that the on top of mentioned community appeal has been made by him or originated from his office and he further stated that he does not agree with the contents of this appeal and that its contents are fake and overstated in order to disgrace him. However, he requested me to speed up the delivery of the first district drugs from Vavuniya as the stocks were receiving exhausted.
"He further said that he does not have right of entry to e-mail or fax facility to let go such a statement and spoken his dismay and concern about it. It is therefore clear that this has been done by destructive elements with sinister motives who want to humiliate the government and associate Dr. Varatharaja with false misinformation. He also sought advice from me as to what he should do when the troops advanced towards the Pudukkudiyiruppu hospital. I advised him to move into the cleared areas with the patients to which request he very obviously replied that the LTTE has not given him consent to do so and that he feared to do it without their permission".

Troops reconstruct Kalamadukulam Bridge, facilitates civilian influx- Mullaittivu

Engineering group of the 58 Division have reconstructed the Kalamadukulam viaduct which was destroyed by LTTE using high explosives before fleeing from the area amidst intense military onslaughts on 24th January. The construction work was finished yesterday (Jan 28), area military sources reported.
Kalamadukulam Bridge extending over 140ft is deliberately important as it links the vital Paranthan - Mullaittivu main road, the sources further said.
The terrorists also shattered the Kalamadukulam Tank bund, flooding sections of the A-35 Paranthan - Mullaittivu main road, Ramanatpuram, Dharmapuram and Visuamadu in its dire effort to stall the military advances. Hundreds of civilians evasion from LTTE were entrapped in the flood waters and later salvaged by security forces during hours long save operations conducted. Troops also successfully thwarted an LTTE attack along the flood canal aboard 5 boats targeting soldiers busy in save operations.
The engineering corps undertook construction work which was finished within days, to make easy the influx of civilians from the non-liberated areas.
